Summer Skin Care Guide for Men

There are two reasons why we cannot start this article with Winter is coming. First of all, Winter came and it ended (to some happily, to others not so much), and secondly – it’s summer, why would we mention winter at all?

Now, it seems that during summer, we forget to take care of our skin as we have so many different places to see, so many swimming pools to visit, and so many coffees to sip outside.

Taking care of your skin during summer is equally important – it can get pretty dry which can affect your face not only this season, but the next several seasons as well, especially if you don’t pay attention.

And let’s be honest – guys rarely pay attention to their skin. That being said, since we definitely don’t want that, take a look at some of the most important tips on how to take care of your skin during summer.

Welcome to the face wash

You might be a guy, but don’t lie that you don’t know the classic Car Wash by Xtina and Missy. Anywho, it’s not about the song that we should be talking about, but you washing your face regularly.

Summer is known as the season during which you get sweaty like crazy, so it’s obvious that you should wash your face regularly, or even better – more often than regularly!

You should use your high-quality facial cleanser at least two times a day (in the morning and before going to bed), but you can also go with it once you experience a lot of sweating. If not, make sure to cleanse it with lukewarm water during the day.

H2O to the rescue

Secondly, don’t forget to hydrate. Hydration is a very important factor to consider throughout the whole year, not only during summer.

Make sure to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of dehydrated skin, and you will definitely know what it takes to keep it on point. Namely, you can do this in two ways.

  • You can always opt for a good moisturizer cream that will hydrate and moisturize your skin, but more on that later, when we will try to teach you what kind of moisturizers you should be using and why.
  • Drink plenty of water during the day. Keeping your skin hydrated will eliminate the possibility of the creation of any fine lines and blemishes, and will keep its elasticity intact. Not only will it do wonders for your face, but drinking water will bring plenty of advantages for your whole body as well.

Shave it off

A general rule is to be careful around any sharp objects, and the situation is no different when shaving is concerned.

However, your summer skin might be more prone to being irritated because of the razors, so it’s important to be very gentle. The best idea would be to wet your hair before shaving, so that you soften it a bit.

Due to the dry air during summer months, your beard might be quite difficult to be shaven. This might also happen with any other body hair as well, so keep that in mind. Also, change blades or toss disposable razors after 5 to 7 shaves. This will minimize irritation according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

It’s moisturize, not Leviosa!

Just like Hermione thinks that knowing how to pronounce the spells is important, so is moisturizing. You might be a guy and you might not think how important this is (yes, even if you have a beard!), but it’s definitely one of the most important things that you should do during the day.

Now, as you might have read earlier in this article, this is when we tell you how to use your moisturizers. The best option would be to have two moisturizers – one for the day and one for the night.

The reason why these two types of moisturizers exist is the fact that the night ones are slightly more dense and stronger, which means that your face will absorb all the important nutrients during the night.

The daily one is also important as it will keep your face protected during the day.

Giving your face that extra layer of moisture is super important for the elasticity of the skin, and unless you want to grow older very quickly, this is what you should do. However, if you’re an elementary-level skincare, you can also use only one moisturizer twice a day.

I wear my sunscreen… always

The skincare routine during summer differs a lot mostly because of your sunscreen. Even though you are supposed to use sunscreen protection in winter as well (as the sun in winter is equally dangerous, if not more!), make sure that you have a high-quality sunscreen with you at all times.

It might sound ludicrous, but wearing your sunscreen might slow down your aging process, and it’s definitely something we all want, don’t we?

Dead cells, you’ve been cancelled

Did you know that you constantly have a plethora of dead cells on your face? It sounds gross, and it certainly is, but there is one thing that you can do in order to prevent this.

It’s called exfoliation, and you should do it at least once a week in order to get rid of all the dead cells and dirt from your face. Just imagine how many of them are under your beard.

This is more important if your skin is oily, as oil can build up on your skin which can be quite unhelpful. The best idea would be to exfoliate once or twice a week – don’t do it more often than that as exfoliating too often is not quite healthy.

Can’t you hear me SOS?

Finally, there’s always the option of a dermatologist. A dermatologist is not only there when you’re in desperate need of one or when something happens to your face – you can always talk to them and ask them for help if in need.

They will tell you exactly what kind of products you should use based on your skin type, which is always a huge plus.

As you can see, it’s not very difficult to pay attention to your summer skin even though you’re a guy. All it takes is just a bit of your time and being diligent.

Unless you want bad skin of course, which is completely OK as well if that’s what you want. But come on, we both know it’s not
